Recruit Lighthouses of Prayer
Recruitment of churches and ministries to serve as Lighthouses of
Prayer can add to the amount of prayer support. The Lighthouses
of Prayer are wonderful tools and opportunities for those groups
who are geographically too far away to participate locally. Rather,
they can establish there own prayer rooms and recruit on their own
from among parishioners. It adds great coverage in the region. Typically,
we find that people end up praying at all different times which
is the objective. During the event, having 24/7 prayer coverage
is the ideal strategy.
Prayer Room Schedule
Having an open Prayer Room is a great way to concentrate corporate
prayer. Each day of the event can have people assigned to time slots
in the Prayer Room – held in a hotel, ministry office, or
church. It is imperative that prayer coverage is available for the
team(s) going out in the morning, as well as upon their return.
This can be the challenging part of the pre-campaign activities
identifying and signing up those persons and groups who are committed
to come and pray. Yet, let it be known: time spent in the Prayer
Room can be life changing!
DURING THE EVENT
Post Prayer Room Schedule
On the front door of the Prayer Room it is an excellent idea to
have a written schedule posted for the entire campaign. If organized
in a daily format, a person can walk into the room and quickly identify
the prayer coverage for the day. It is also a benefit to the ministry
teams.
Distribution of Prayer Requests
Once the event is underway, prayer requests come in to the assigned
coordinator. Some requests are from prisoners and other requests
are from those ministering. If lines of communication have been
established with the Lighthouses of Prayer or other volunteers (e-mail
works well in this case), the prayer requests can be distributed.
Morning Prayer with departing teams
As mentioned earlier, it is important to have someone in the Prayer
Room during the morning hours when teams depart for the prisons.
The volunteer(s) in the Prayer Room at that time can pray with and
for the departing teams. Sometimes, staff and artists will share
individual prayer requests. These are all things for the intercessors
to lift in prayer.
Day and Night Intercession
During the day, it is ideal to have as many time slots filled by
volunteers as possible. The experience in the Prayer Room can generate
tears, laughter, rejoicing, or silence. It is marvelous to watch
the Holy Spirit lead people in a specific way as they intercede
praying for faces and names they do not know; taking authority over
strongholds as identified by the Spirit. If there is a difficult
situation at one of the prisons and the ministry team calls in for
prayer, it is a great advantage having someone in the Prayer Room
who can get to work
Evening Prayer with returning teams
Coverage in the Prayer Room at night is also important, as it allows
returning teams to come in for prayer if they choose, or simply
share the excitement of the day. Depending upon the schedule for
the day, sometimes evenings can be late. Often teams have had a
long day and simply want to return to their rooms for a night of
rest. It is important to be available without imposing.
Prayer Needs sent to Partners
Communication is vital that as prayer needs are identified, they
are sent out to the intercessors. The local prayer coordinator will
work with a representative from the ministry team to coordinate
the timeliness of prayer requests.
POST EVENT ACTIVITIES
Once the event concludes, it becomes essential that intercessors
remain focused on continued prayer. There often can be an attack
against those involved with the event. This portion of aftercare
prayer is vital to sealing in the work God has done and hedging
the teams into God's protection and care.
Immediate Intercession
The first week after the event is an ideal time for the group of
intercessors to meet and pray. Specific areas include: safekeeping
of all who participated in the events; health concerns; prayer for
the families of the ministry teams. It is also vital to pray for
the prisons, prisoners, correctional officers, chaplains and wardens.
Additional prayer coverage for those who gave their lives to Christ
during the event is essential.
Prayer for the various organizations and volunteers who go into
the correctional facilities for all the follow up after the event
is critical. It can be so easy for newly saved prisoners to fall
through the cracks without prayer and follow up. This first month
can be considered a crucial time of intercession in those areas.
Distribute prayer requests from the event
As the remaining prayer requests come in from the event, communicating
those requests to the intercessors is important.
Prayer Meetings
At various points in time during the first month after the event,
conducting local prayer meetings is helpful. Through these prayer
meetings, as any strongholds are identified through reports, they
can be dealt with in prayer. These ongoing prayer meetings can serve
to create prayer walls of protection for all who were involved.
The walls can be considered as building hedge upon hedge of protection
for all who were involved in the event.
Concert of Celebration
A final step in the post event process is the idea of holding a
Concert of Praise and Celebration. Ideally, it would be held within
eight weeks after the end of the event. It is a great way to rally
local volunteers and groups together to glorify God and honor Him
for His work in the prisons. It also provides a framework by which
local groups can network and grow their collaborative efforts at
the local level.
