Women’s
Huron Valley Correctional Facility
We had a wonderful day at Huron Valley Correctional, located
in Ypsilanti, Michigan. I arrived the evening before our two
scheduled Prayer Seminars, and was picked up by the Michigan
Prison Fellowship staff. The invitation to come to Huron Valley
had been extended by the Prison Fellowship office and they
did a great job in coordinating the event.
The first Prayer Seminar began in the morning. When we arrived
at the facility, two local volunteers joined us. We were met
by the Chaplain and escorted to the location of the event.
Women from one wing of the prison came in the morning and
from a different wing came to the afternoon event. There were
a total of 150 women who participated in the Prayer Seminars
that day. We had time for a few questions, and the women engaged
in a prayer exercise that showed them how to pray for one
another. There were moments of tears and of laughter as we
shared on the power of prayer, the authority that believers
have to pray, and different ways of praying. There was a tender
time as we talked about being a great mom includes praying
for our children – and that from the place the women
are at now, they can be a parent who sets the right example.
We returned home with nearly 150 prayer requests, brought
to our intercessory team. Many women signed up for our correspondence
Bible Study on prayer. We thank the staff at Huron Valley,
the staff at Prison Fellowship, and all those who lifted this
day up in prayer.
