The
Voice of the Lord
There is a voice and it is one that cries in the wilderness, or
desert. It says “Prepare the way of the Lord.” Lord,
it seems You are instructing us to be as Elijah and John the Baptist,
as preparers of the way for the soon returning Messiah – oh
Praise Your Name! You cry from the wilderness, You cry from the
desert. You cry from the broken places; You cry from the deserted
spaces. You cry, Your voice cries. It is Your heart cry we hear
and we respond – we are drawn to Your voice. Once we recognize
it, once we too “come to our senses” as prodigals, we
are drawn to Your voice crying out – prepare the way of the
Lord. And as we prepared our hearts for You Lord, and as we received
You Father, Lord, Savior, into our hearts, and as Your heart cry
became our heart cry, oh Lord, You whisper to us, it doesn’t
stop there. For You proclaim to us this day, THIS IS JUST THE BEGINNING.
You are a precept God – here a precept, there a precept. Here
a little, there a little. You are a building God, a constructing
God. You are not done with us – thank You! You now look for
those among us who will harken unto Your call to us: “GO,
prepare the way of the Returning Lord.” Highways and byways,
hedges, thorny areas, GO. No more staying – get up and go
where the Lord tells us to go. The heart of the intercessor is the
heart of the one who calls out to You, Father, with her heart cry
that is Yours, the heart cry in the wilderness places. Some will
go in prayer. Others will be called to physically go to the places
You send us.
We hear Your voice calling out, and we say yes to You, Lord.
We hear a second voice; it says, “Cry.” We come to You
and ask what shall we cry, Lord? You tell us – this is what
you are to speak forth, to cry out to the places I send you: “The
word of our God shall stand forever.” Situations come and
go, people enter and depart our lives, there are losses and there
are gains. But the word – the word, this precious word of
God stands forever. “The word of God is not bound” (2
Ti. 2:9) and it cannot be bound! It has stood, it stands, and it
shall stand forever!! Father, You speak forth to us today an instruction:
Go where I send you, and proclaim the word of our God shall stand
forever. Speak forth the gospel message and bring with us the Spirit
of Elijah. As we prepare and proclaim, in accordance with Your Will
and instruction, we are mindful that “as the rain cometh down
and the snow from heaven, and returneth not thither, but waters
the earth and maketh it bring forth and bud, that it may give seed
to the sower and bread to the eater, so shall My word be that goes
forth out of My mouth: it shall not return to me void, but it shall
accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing
whereto I sent it.” (Isa. 55:10-11)
There is a third voice – it provides us with further direction.
We respond to the whisper of the wind guiding us to the high mountains.
It leads us up into the high places and it whispers to us to lift
our voices with strength, to lift them up and to not fear, and to
proclaim, “Behold your God!” Do not be afraid; be very
bold and courageous. Speak the word of God with strength and lift
our voices so that they will be heard. Say, “Here is your
God.” Spread the word as seed and as bread. Those ready to
eat shall dine of the finest manna from heaven. Those not yet ready
to eat will have seeds of faith and hope planted deeply within them.
And that word of God will not return back empty. It will accomplish
the pleasure of God and it will prosper where it is sent.
Prepare the way, He speaks to us. He seeks preparers this day, for
the Lord is returning soon. As we are out preparing He puts the
words in our mouth: the word of our God shall stand forever. Behold
your God!”
In the gentle breeze is a fourth voice. It comes from a distance,
yet if we listen closely, we can hear it growing in strength. It
begins as a faint cry, a fourth cry. It is a voice from heaven coming
through the clouds and into our hearts. Yes, it is the Lord speaking
through a fourth voice. This voice speaks forth, “The Spirit
and the bride say, Come.” (Rev. 22:17). The Spirit and the
bride say “come.” The Holy Spirit, with its convicting
power, and the growing bride, the church, extend the most divine
invitation in the world: come. Come. Come to Christ.
Some hear the voice and are ready to come. Let him who hears come.
These are the ones who have heard the voice; they have fought it
perhaps, questioned it, or even run from it. Now they are ready
to come – come to the Lord Jesus Christ.
Let him who is thirsty come. These are the ones who haven’t
heard the voice yet, but deep inside them is a thirst, a longing,
a desire for things to be different in their lives. It is a thirst
that they cannot put words to. They have drunk of many things, but
none has quenched their thirst. So, still they look.
Whosoever will let him take the water of life freely. This water
is free. If one chooses, or wills, she can take the free gift of
the water of life.
